journalism in belize

The week of June 14, 2010 was an exciting one for me, as I embarked on a project I’d been thinking about and planning for a while. It was a week of journalism workshops for practicing journalists and other professional communicators, sponsored by the University of the West Indies, Open Campus, Belize.

My collaborators in organizing the program were Mrs. Jane Bennett, Head, and Dr. Sharmayne Saunders, Programme Officer at the campus. By the end of the week, fifteen dedicated men and women had inspired me and one another with their passion for their chosen profession and their determination to enhance their careers and their industry as a whole.

Mrs. Bennett, Dr. Saunders and already are looking ahead to Dateline: Belize, 2011! As we prepare, we are seeking volunteers to work as instructors, especially for hands-on training in multimedia skills. Having worked with a shoestring budget on the first Dateline: Belize, we are also seeking underwriters to help us provide the best possible instruction, keeping the workshops affordable for local journalists and other professional communicators.
