DATELINE: Belize

I am working with the University of the West Indies Open Campus in Belize City to develop a week of journalism workshops for Belizean media professionals.  The lecture topics grew out of a survey of Belizean journalists that I conducted last year.

I am the director of Region 7 (IA, KS, MO, NE) for the Society of Professional Journalists.

My responsibilities include supporting individual members as well as professional and campus chapters in the region; coordinating our Mark of Excellence Award judging and ceremony; and working with SPJ HQ to coordinate the regional conference.

I also write for our regional blog, “The Heartland Beat.”

In addition to my RD duties, I am a member of the SPJ Diversity Committee. In this capacity I contribute to the blog, “Who’s News” and write occasional articles for the SPJ magazine, “Quill.”
